Cerveris and Gemignani to Star in Sondheim's ROAD SHOW (Formerly BOUNCE) at Public Theater
Even though the last incarceration of Bounce was apparently a little bit of a cluster-fuck, and regardless of how this version does, any ‘new’ Sondheim show is cause for celebration. Especially with Cerveris and Gemignani. Huzzah!tony kushner, angels in america
as i was telling anna, this is probably my second favorite quote from angels in america. the suspense mr. lies is killing me.
The last vampire is the mother of all vampires and that is the vampire of despair. It’ll wake you up at 4am to say things like: Who do you think you’re kidding? You look like a fool. No matter how hard you try, you’ll never be good enough.
Why is it that if some dude walked up to me on the subway platform and said these things, I’d think he was a mentally ill asshole, but if the vampire inside my head says it, It’s the voice of reason.
- [title of show], Die Vampire, Die!Shameless request from a Broadway baby
My mom is visiting the last week of July, and while she’s visited me every year I’ve lived here, we’ve never gone to a Broadway show. This year I’d like to take her to a musical.
I know where to go online for reasonably-priced tickets (theatremania.com, etc.) but can anyone help me find good discounts?
Here’s a list of shows she’d like to see:
Avenue Q - (has a lotto - 26.50 for front row)
Gypsy (has a non-student rush - 26.50.) get there near when the box office opens to get really nice side orchestra (some slightly partial view orchestra seats.) if you can get them to give you the box seats (request them) those are amazing.
Jersey Boys
Phantom (gag me)
Rent (gag me again, I fear I’ll just sing along to the entire show) - has a lotto, 20.00
Spamalot(I might still make one last request to see In The Heights! Not sure if she’d love it as much as I do.)
Anyone have a hookup I could use? My Broadway contacts are currently dry but I can’t complain; I rarely ever pay for tickets.
so i added comments of the ways i know to get cheap tickets for the show in bold above.
if you aren’t feeling the rush / lotto - i would check http://www.broadwaybox.com/ and http://www.playbill.com/club/offers/ for discounts.
(the rent / avenue q lotteries are fairly winnable. but ever since in the heights won the tony it’s been selling out and lotto is impossible.) enjoy!
Red curtain at City Center for Damn Yankees
i’m so excited for this musical. the cast is actually amazing, i love the movie, and the song ‘9 to 5’ is going to make one hell of an opening number. i listen to it all the time while walking to work and it never fails to put me in a better mood.
Hello, Dolly! 9 to 5 Books Broadway’s Marquis; Full Casting Announced
#33: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
Wicked was just about everything I hoped it would be. It was epic, funny, dark, and thoughtful. I knew nothing of the story beforehand and was surprised by the weaving tale of the land of Oz. When I was reading, I had to think back to the movie to try to put together the pieces of the puzzle before me. Maguire is able to create a fictional world that seems as real as the one before us and at the same time as magical as anything we could dream up. This is an excellent read for anyone looking for a little bit of imagination this summer!
Oh, and if anyone knows how to get a cheap ticket to see the musical on Broadway please let me know.
get a bunch of friends to help you lotto. (2 and a half hours before every show) tickets if you win are $25 for front row. the only way to boost your chances of winning is to bring ‘ringers’ who will give you the tickets if their name is called.
alternatively, they sell side orchestra partial view tickets for $55. the view isn’t that partial and you can buy in advance. enjoy!
